My First -- Five Quick Takes

1. I have a confession to make. I have become an avid blog reader. I love peering into other people's world to see what is going on in their life. I will admit their wit and their ability to get their thoughts down on page (or in a blog) is inspiring.  Someday, just someday, the writing bug will chose me...still waiting. Which leads me to...

2. Spelling and grammar....why are there so many exceptions. Most Thursday nights are spend reviewing spelling words for the test on Friday. This weeks set of words were getting the best of us. And, next came the question,"well, why do we change the "y" to "i" and add the ending? The words looks much better with the "y" and they make the same sound."  As usual, he has a point. My only response to that was, "I don't make the rules."

3. My irritation for the week was finding piano lessons.  Just googling "piano lessons for kids in Los Angeles" brought up pages of suggestions, prices and locations. The price range was huge $14-60 for a 30 minute lesson.  The options are endless -- your home, their home, studio, keyboard, piano.  Why too many choices!  Will this child of mine ever get signed up?  Yes!  because I'm tired of him asking ALL.OF.THE.TIME. and I really need him to learn something other than Heart and Soul.  He is driving us out of the house with that one.

4. Since my new favorite movie is Saving Mr. Banks I decided to read a book about one of the main characters in the movie, P.L.Travers. I'm not sure if it is the style of the author of the biography or the person herself but she seemed to have a had very sad childhood.  This made me think about the movie even more and I started to wonder what it would have been like if Mr. Disney didn't put his spin on the Mary Poppins stories.  Thank goodness for Mr. Disney!

5. Favorite quote from my son this week:  He was begging, negotiating, bargaining...you name it...for a snack from a vending machine.  For those of you who know me well, know exactly what I think of the stuff in vending machines, and so does he.  So, out of his mouth came, "It's OK mom.  I'm not allergic to calories."  Some days I sure wished I was allergic to calories! After taken a moment to laugh a little, I figured out he was trying to say, "I don't have any allergies."  Which brings me back to point #2, the English Language!

Happy Friday!
